    DATELINE: BALTIMORE, MD - AUGUST 2, 1998

Just got back from Paramount's Kings Dominion, where the big news is... the Volcano! This new ride really separates the roller coaster enthusiasts from the bumper car people.... Nine people are strapped into seats, suspended from a rail, and are quickly whisked into the structure, where they are twirled and whirled around and then straight up, until the mountain rumbles and the people are shot up through steam, and flung out the top of the simulated volcano, feet-first, at 70-80 miles per hour!

The ride lasts 1 minute and 28 seconds, but everyone said it was worth the 3-hour wait.... For me, I'll just stick to the bumper cars. The Volcano also separates families, friends, couples, etc... between those that are daredevils and those that still have their brains and prefer not to have them flung around precariously.

The other new "exciting" ride is the Xtreme Sky Flyer, where people are strapped together in a harness (as many as three at a time) and hoisted 150 feet up into the air, then dropped until they fall and swing across their worried relatives below!

Whatever happened to those teacup rides at the Enchanted Forest?
